El proyecto Green Circles opera como una construcción colaborativa por medio de un trabajo in integrado entre árboles nativos, historia y memoria. Cada Green Circle trae en su proceso de nacimiento conceptos como la presencia y la ascendencia en una perspectiva relacional entre la cultura y la naturaleza. En el caso del rito, éste se entiende aquí como una acción artística en la que se integran diferentes elementos. Así pues, cada sitio tiene su camino de preparación para el momento de la siembra final en colaboración con la comunidad involucrada. Los círculos de árboles nativos traen consigo cuestiones políticas y simbólicas en la acción de la siembra. En Tolhuin, a orillas del lago Khami o lago Fagniano se plantaron 43 plántulas de Lenga como referencia a los 43 años de fundación de la ciudad. Las plántulas fueron elegidas y donadas por el semillero de la ciudad, donde se supo que el árbol de Lenga tarda 200 años para llegar a la adultez. En esa misma sintonía, para crear la misma proporción de cantidad y longevidad, se utilizaron muchas piedras traídas desde la orilla del lago para construir el centro del círculo. La afirmación de esta cuestión temporal presente en el carácter local nos trae una perspectiva que propone un diálogo entre el tiempo natural y el tiempo cultural de la acción, así como la creación de micro y macro políticas. La ciudad de Tolhuim, así como a toda la región de la Patagonia argentina nos hace entrar en contacto con un tiempo más lento para la construcción, la formación y la transformación. Así, en este contexto nació el nombre de este Green Circle - CIRCULO DE KHAMI PARA EL TIEMPO - como resultado de un proceso en colaboración.

 

Integrado al trabajo realizado en Tolhuim están las imágenes “Cuerpo blanco sobre el paisaje” e “Inventario de las piedras - palabras”. En el primero, el cuerpo de la artista es presentado en los márgenes del lago Khami; la imagen duplicada, con y sin la presencia del cuerpo remite a la transformación histórica - social dada por el paso del cuerpo blanco por el paisaje. De la misma forma, en “Inventario de piedras – palabras”, la artista recoge imágenes de las piedras que se encuentran en la playa de Khami y que fueron utilizadas en el centro del Green Circle. Aquí hay un diálogo que hace referencia a las formaciones de las piedras y las palabras que fueron recogidas a partir de un testimonio entregado por la descendiente Selknam Amália Gudiño Ishton al grupo de artistas invitados. En este testimonio Amalia contó sobre sus memorias así como su visión política e histórica sobre los violentos episodios de exterminio masivo del pueblo Selknam durante el proceso de colonización impuesto en Tolhuim. Al recoger fragmentos de su conversación y plantarlos simbólicamente junto a los árboles, la artista evoca el tiempo y la memoria como polos de muerte y renacimiento en la continua transformación de la naturaleza y la cultura.

To create this GREEN CIRCLE, in the city of Toulhin, a small village located in Patagonia, Argentina; were planted 43 seedlings of the species LENGA. The number alludes to the first time stamp indicated by the work: donated by the nursery of the city, the number of seedlings referred to the anniversary of the village fulfilled at the occasion of the residence held at the invitation of the project ARTEINSITU-INTERACCIONES - in October 2015.

During the days of residence, on the banks of KHAMI or FAGNIANO Lake, I collected, transported, and photographed the stones present on the banks used to form the center around which the trees would be planted in a spiral.

The choice of temporality as the guiding axis of this GREEN CIRCLE, was based on my observation of the distinct nature of that place. The LENGA trees, native to the region, are extremely resistant to the cold of this landscape and take 200 years to be adult. At the same time, the stones that adorn the banks of the lake, are millions of years old. The name of the lake also faces the encounter between two times: KHAMI is the indigenous name given by the original populations, FAGNIANO, the name of the Spanish colonizer and represents a moment of deep violence that decimated in just a century and almost completely, the ethnic group SELKNAN , who lived for 7000 years in this territory.

The name of this GREEN CIRCLE: CIRCULO DE KHAMI PARA EL TIEMPO was created collectively by the community of artists and residents who participated in the final action with the planting of LENGAS trees.

Add to the works produced in this residence, the images created for the diptych "Cuerpo blanco sobre el paisaje" and the series "Inventory of the stones that speak". Being both in photography, the first brings my naked body over the cold local landscape. In the two images that compose this work, my present and absent body points to the passage of the white body on this earth. Already the second work presents a series of 43 photographs of stones that I collected and transported from the margin to the center of the circle of LENGAS. For each image is a text: fragments of the testimony of the descendant Selknam, Amália Gudiño Ishton. In this testimony, Amalia told about the process of domination of her people
